Blogging from A-Z: J

JAPANESE/JAPANEES/E

Last year I had a lovely Japanese girl for two weeks

visiting one of our local Colleges.

She gave me some souvenirs from Japan.

Kasumi my JAPANESE student thoroughly enjoyed her stay with me.

JUMBO JET/JUMBO JET

In 2014, I had a Chinese student living with me for a whole year.

She went home to Hong Kong in a

JUMBO JET.

  1. Did you enjoy hosting a foreign student? I have had some very good friends whom I met when they were exchange students at my high school. I have thought a lot about hosting a student when my kids are a bit older, but I’ve also heard some really awful stories that make me a bit nervous.

    1. I had my doubts at first. Was a huge effort at first to understand each other. With hands waving, drawing pictures and using a dictionary it all went very well. I enjoyed having these girls. I think boys would be a bit different. Some stories are not good at all, but if you stand on your rules, there are not big issues. They take chances(which child won’t!?)

      1. One of my best friends is Hungarian, and we met when he was an exchange student at my high school. He speaks English fluently now, but some of the stories about trying to get through those early days are both comical and frustrating. He spent just three months in a host home before moving to the next one (three times) as part of that program, which could be good or bad, I suppose. Thanks for your insight!

Die jaar-student was soos n dogter vir my.

Goeie ondervinding gewees.
