Magpies!
I heard their clear songs in the distance and came around the corner, saw the two Magpies; danger was my first reaction, I didn’t look their way and passed without them interfering with my walk.
Hi we have magpies in the UK but I have not known them attack humans. They are a beautiful bird not a popular one though. My mum was very superstitious, we always had to salute them and say “good morning or good afternoon Mr Magpie”. I still do! There is a rhyme that applies to magpies , One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four a boy, Five for silver, six for gold, seven for a story never to be told, eight is a wish, and nine a kiss, ten is a chance you must not miss.

For many years, I had the call of the African Fish Eagle as ringtone on my phone. Strangely, it annoys people, esp fellow white men who would stare when my phone rings. To me, it is as aithentically African as they come.

Awesome, it really is a call that is one of a kind. Nothing as beautiful as that call. Die magpies is blikskottels. Hul val mens en dier aan as mens naby hul nes kom wat meestal onwetend is.

Ken nie magpies nie. As ons in grootkaliber-Bisley ‘n slegte skoot gevuur en net 3 punte gekry het, het ons dit ‘n magpie genoem. Dis ‘n Britse tradisie.

Interressant. Ken ook nie die Magpies nie. Hoor maar net hoe mense van hul praat. Hul is blykbaar n verpesting. Natuurlik is dit Australië se skuld dis hul voël. NZ en Aus verdra mekaar mos gladnie!
